SPF, which is short for Sender Policy Framework, is an e-mail security system, that is used to confirm if an e-mail message was sent by a licensed server. Employing SPF protection for a domain will stop the counterfeiting of emails made with the domain. In simple words: enabling this feature for a domain name generates a special record in the Domain Name System (DNS) that contains the IP of the servers which are allowed to send e-mails from mail boxes using the domain. As soon as this record propagates globally, it will exist on all the DNS servers that route the Internet traffic. Any time a new email message is sent, the initial DNS server it uses checks whether it originates from an accredited server. If it does, it is forwarded to the destination address, but when it does not originate from a server indexed in the SPF record for the particular domain, it is rejected. In this way nobody will mask an e-mail address to make it appear as if you are distributing spam. This technique is also termed email spoofing.

SPF Protection in Shared Hosting

If you host your domains in a shared hosting account on our end and we handle the emails for them, you are able to enable SPF protection for any of them with a couple of clicks in your Hepsia Control Panel. The service can be found in a section of its own where you will be able to see which domain names are currently protected. For the ones that are not, you will be able to enable the SPF protection service and manage numerous things at the same time - the hostnames of the mail servers that are allowed to send messages from your e-mails, the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses of these servers, and to set a rule that emails can be sent only if your domain names include our MX records. The aforementioned choice is the most secure one, and you can use it in the event that we handle the e-mail addresses for your domain names and you are not using a different e-mail supplier. The newly created records will be activated within one day and nobody will be able to forge the FROM field in a message using your e-mail addresses.

SPF Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers

The SPF protection feature is available with all the semi-dedicated servers, so in case you host your domain names in an account on our cloud hosting platform, you'll be able to use this service with ease for any of your domains. The Hepsia Control Panel, which comes with the semi-dedicated accounts, offers a rather easy to work with interface, therefore you will not have to be proficient in the use of computers to secure your e-mails. You will simply need to type the hostname and the IP of each mail server that you would like to be allowed to send e-mails from your addresses and right after that the updated record will be active for the domain that you've chosen. As an additional option, we'll also allow you to control your outgoing emails and secure your mailboxes even further by permitting emails to be sent only if the domain name involved contains our MX records i.e. the emails for the domain name have to be taken care of by us and not by some other company. Thus you'll get even better control and there will not be any chance for somebody to fake your e-mail addresses for malicious activities.
